CFCamp
Come next month, I’ll be speaking at CFCamp 2025 in Munich. Here are my thoughts on this topic.
Hey! Nice to see you again. Been a while, hasn‘t it? Regardless if you‘re a frequent reader of my blog or have just stumbled upon my website, you will know that I like to speak at conferences. When I speak, I frequently focus on either security or database performance, though I sometimes speak about what I find resonates with BreachDirectory as well.
Regardless, this blog isn‘t about BreachDirectory; I wanted to mention that I will be around CFCamp 2025.
CFCamp is an annual (and, so far, the only) ColdFusion Markup Language – CFML – conference in Europe. CFCamp began in 2008 and then, attracted 80 attendees and 9 sessions took place. This year, CFCamp expects more than 150 attendees. The conference starts with a pre-conference dinner and will consist of over 20 sessions.
As usual these days, my speech will focus on Hacking MySQL. Well, not exactly hacking MySQL, but Hacking Your Database for Big Data as my speech will have more of a general focus. I don‘t work with CFML, but I‘m in possession of something that‘s of interest to many developers and DBAs no matter what programming language they find themselves working with: data breaches and database knowledge. My speech will aim to combine those two things into one. I will walk attendees through my experience building BreachDirectory.com and walk them through what database to use/choose to work with their specific use case and why, how best to work with big data sets inside their database management system of choice, how to speed up the performance of their SQL queries, no matter they‘re running selects, updates, inserts, or deletes, the internals of database indexing and how indexes improve query performance, my experience writing Hacking MySQL: Breaking, Optimizing, and Securing MySQL for Your Use Case for Apress, bugs in MySQL, and more.
My speech isn‘t the only one related to databases and it doesn‘t even focus specifically on CFML, but I do come with a unique perspective and a unique use case – I aim to craft my speech and slides in such a way that informs them, is easy to follow, and builds easy and simple to understand mental models. I might throw in a joke or two in there too.
Come May, I will be speaking at the only ColdFusion Markup Language in Europe – CFCamp 2025. My attendance there is rather unique because I‘m far from an avid user of ColdFusion, however, I will share my perspective into Hacking Your Database for Big Data: something I have a lot of experience in. Hope to see you there!
